This Yogi & Yogini hammered copper cup combines the traditional health benefits of Ayurveda with a beautiful, handcrafted finish. The hammered finish not only gives the cup a special elegance and grip, but also emphasises its traditional manufacture from 99.9% pure copper (Tamba). According to the 2000-year-old Indian art of healing, drinking water stored in copper is ideal for balancing the three doshas (Vata, Kappa, Pitta) in the body.
Copper vessels naturally oxidise, which leads to discolouration or dark spots. This oxidation process is unavoidable and does not affect the function of the copper. Dark spots often appear over time, particularly on the inside of copper bottles or jugs, which often remain untreated. These can be easily cleaned with a mixture of citric acid and water. Cleaning every two weeks or when visible stains appear is sufficient, as copper has an antibacterial effect.
The outside of copper vessels is often varnished to protect against oxidation. However, this varnish can be damaged by scratches, causing the copper to oxidise and darken in these areas. Lemon juice and salt can be used to remove these stains. It is important to treat copper vessels with care, as they are not dishwasher-safe and the coating can be damaged by friction or impact. In general, copper care is easy as long as you clean the material regularly and handle it with care.
